Summer is on the horizon bringing with it fun in the sun, sand and surf. However, it also brings with it sun damage, perspiration and the need for daily skin protection. Aging may be inevitable, but there’s plenty you can do to reduce wrinkles and sun damage during the warmer months.
You’re likely aware of the sun’s dangerous UVA rays and probably already know that summer is one of the most damaging times of year for your skin. You may want that bronze glow, and you can have it, but not without taking the necessary precautions.
Use the following 5-step guide to help protect your skin and reduce wrinkles this summer.
- Moisturize
The first key to healthy skin (year-round) is to keep it properly moisturized. This differs for individuals based on skin type, however it’s even more imperative to moisturize in the summer. To reduce wrinkles and dry, flaking skin use a quality moisturizer at least twice per day.
Even if you live in a humid climate, chances are good the sweat, dirt and sun exposure will still leave your skin feeling tight and dry. For the safest and best results apply moisturizer in the morning and at night, and a few times during the day if you’re out in the hot sun.
- Wear protection
You may come across moisturizers that include a sunscreen, however if you’re favorite go-to product does not include one – you’ll want to add it to your daily skincare regime this summer. If you make it a habit to include the SPF every morning before you leave the house, you’ll always step out protected from the hot summer sun.
To properly reduce wrinkles from sun damage, make sure to use a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and be sure to apply the sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you leave the house – in order to let the protection dry and be most effective.
- Buy quality sunglasses
Tired of squinting constantly throughout the day? It’s time to invest in a quality pair of sunglasses. Not only can the sun exposure to the eyes cause headaches and vision damage, it’s also a leading cause of crow’s feet and wrinkles around the eyes.
To protect your eyes and reduce wrinkles this summer, be sure you’re wearing a nice pair of shades. Find a pair that’s comfortable and stylish for everyday wear, and check for polarization and UVA ray protection, to be sure you’re eyes are as protected as your skin all summer long.
- Re-apply protection
We already mentioned sunscreen, but it’s worth mentioning again. Remember to reapply SPF of at least 30 throughout the day to reduce wrinkles and best protect your skin (especially if you’re swimming, sweating or by the pool all day).
Even the best, waterproof sunscreen will come off during summer activities, so keep a small travel size with you at all times and don’t forget to use it. Reducing wrinkles is one reason to stay protected, although you also want to keep in mind serious health risks such as skin cancer.
- Keep it clean
The summer months provide plenty of perspiration, parties and tanning, which also provide plenty of toxins, dirt and debris for your skin. To help reduce wrinkles and acne during the warmer months, be sure you’re properly cleaning your skin at least twice a day.
This may require some change in technique or product from your regular skincare regimen, however it doesn’t have to mean more cleaning.
